The CIA needed field agents desperately and suspended the policy of their agents being married.
A head trainer thought that as the ultimate test of commitment, they would bring a man to a door and gave him a gun. He was told his wife was in the next room and his first test was to go in and shoot his wife.

The first man was shocked and said he would never shoot his wife for anyone. He was sent home.
A second man was brought to the same room and told the same thing as the first. He was very sad because he always wanted to be a CIA agent but there was no way he could shoot his wife. He too was sent home.
This continued for the entire recruitment class and in all 37 men were sent home.

The next class, comprised of women this time, stared a few weeks later.
The same tests were administered, and the first woman was brought to the door.
The instructors told the woman that her husband was in the next room. She was given the gun and told to go in and shoot her husband.

She took the gun and went in. Very quickly, muffled sounds of chaos erupted in the small room. A sudden crash as a vase shattered, things toppling and what sounded like every item in the room being thrown against the walls. Finally, an eerie silence emerged only to be broken by a guttural animalistic yell. Then, the frantic clatter of a struggle resumed. The unseen spectacle was a whirlwind of desperation and determination, a dance of life and death that unfolded with each echoing thud and desperate cry, until at last, the silence returned, leaving a chilling question lingering in the air. Suddenly there was a loud thud and the sound of splintering wood pierced the silence. A few seconds later, the woman walked out of the room covered in blood, straightening her blouse.

"What happened" they asked her, filled with shock and amazement.

"There were no bullets in the gun, so I had to beat him to death with a chair" she said.

All 42 women passed the class and they are currently stationed in undisclosed locations.
